The world of Firewatch is beautiful, and you'll want to take pictures with the little disposable camera the game gives you. Firewatch, set in the quiet Wyoming wilderness, is a game in which its main character does little more than walk. There are few games apart from the ones I played as a kid that asked me to pay attention like this, and as a result it brings back some of the feelings I had navigating the world of Pokemon in Pokemon Red on the Game Boy, which had a very low fidelity map and demanded that you learn the layout of most of its world to succeed. Without having a mini-map in the corner of the screen, you end up looking for landmarks and internalizing the world, which is just fantastic. The game gives you a generous map in your hand, a compass, a radio, and trusts you to find your way around. One of the most striking things about Firewatch, other than the incredible writing and acting, is how by the end of the game you know your way around your sector of the Shoshone forest. There are no significant puzzles, you require no significant gaming skills - reactions or accuracy, your character can't die. You go places and do things, but the only real choices of action are trivial and everything is largely scripted and well signposted. It's a mystery plot in the background, of strange goings on that you and Delilah have to uncover. Tthis game is really an interactive narrative and art show. It may be purely cosmetic to give you more connection to Henry. I would be interested to see if what you choose here determines something about your character and changes the conversation options with Delilah, and I might test that on replaying. At some points you are offered choices (usually whether to be a douche or not) in this preamble - but one way or another, it wouldn't be much of a spoiler to say things do not turn out well with your wife. which contains poems, journal entries and photos these are all. Interestingly, you get to choose to some extent what your backstory is, how you met and got on with your wife. This may be of concern to some, because arguably that's not much bang for your buck. I could have done it faster, but I spent a bit of time admiring the scenery and engaging in conversation.
